Annual Short Film Competition

2008 saw our first annual short film competition. There were 8 entries from club members and the first winner was Tommy Crocket with his entry ` Ya Dancer` starring Jim `The Painter` McLaughlin. The competition is open to club members and films must run no longer than 60 seconds.

The evening is a light hearted look at what members have learned through the year a chance to have a chat and a glass of wine on the run up to Christmas.

One of the projects undertaken in the past year was The Argyll Classic Car Rally. This required several of our members to position themselves at strategic points on the route to capture the best video images of the cars during their rally. Members went as far as Killin, the heart of Scotland's highlands to capture footage in beautiful surroundings.

A very important project was the welcome of "The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders" to Dumbarton on their return from Afghanistan. This project proved so successful that numerous videos were requested by the soldiers, their friends and families. Also undertaken by club members as a project was the ever increasing in popularity Loch Lomond Folk Festival. This prestigious event was covered by our members and the footage used for several other projects.

Club members are enthusiastic and committed to filming local events, if you have an event that you would like filmed, please contact us and we will endeavour to help you.

The 2009, 60 second film competition was another success with a record number of entries. Entries were in the genre of comedy, local history, travel and sailing. We also had a film featuring a very tame Seagull. This year’s entries can be viewed at www.livestream.com/footagedumbarton/old.

The 2009 winning film was produced by Michael King, with his film titled "Health Warning" the runner up was John Rogers with his film titled "The Crinan Canal"

On Tuesday 14 December 2010 we held our 3rd annual 60 second film competition. This year we had 10 entries covering a wide variety of topics.

This years winner was "Yacht in a storm" by Derek Smith, 2nd place was "The Blue Charm" by Donnie McPhail and in 3rd place was "Ice Dance by Jim Biddulph. These films and the other seven can be viewed by clicking on the livestream link above.
